Niwot cruises in Northern League opener
It’s just how his team responds, and so far this season, it has been pretty solid.
The Cougars improved to 3 1 overall and 1 0 in the Northern League with a 4 0 trouncing of Greeley Central at District 6 Stadium.
“We are just trying to play two touch soccer and be smart and in hermes uk a game like this I want to play everybody and get every hermes uk body in,” Johnson said. “Peak to Peak was kind of a fluke kind of game in the sense of you are not going to see us score a bunch of goals because I’ve got all these players that work hard and they need to play too.
“We have a philosophy that it is the starters’ job to get the non starters in.”
The Cougars had 95 percent of the possession throughout and didn’t allow the Wildcats a single shot on goal.
The got the ball rolling offensively early on. Continued open runs into the Wildcats backline produced the first of many corners.
Lauren FitzGibbons played a beautiful ball that forced Central goalie Kelsey Cousins to protect her near post, only to mistime her jump and have the ball go clear to the back post to a waiting Charlie Miller, who finished easily.
FitzGibbons would be on the receiving end of the Cougars’ next goal. A nifty give and go between her and Maria Fayeulle in the 18 yard box made it a 2 0 game.
“I think it is almost better, because you can always make those runs for the other players and you are constantly moving to the ball,” said FitzGibbons about trying to stay warm on a freezing night on one half of the pitch. “Regardless of how much of th hermes uk e field you are using, you always stay warm in soccer.”
But winning doesn’t always make the ball feel better. With the temperature hovering around freezing, it was i hermes uk mperative to play the ball, which felt like a brick, to feet.
“It’s supposed to feel soft, unless it’s cold, then it hurts and it’s awful,” FitzGibbons said. “When it hit your skin or on your thigh, it just felt like a knife.”
Niwot would tally two more goals. Madison Studebaker capped the first half scoring, running under a Kailee Stobbe pass from the midfield stripe. Fayeulle, who has signed to play her college soccer at the Big 10’s Northwestern, ran ahead of Sydney Werbach beautiful back heel touch and finished easily on a 1 v 1 against Cousins.
“In games like this, we have time and space, so can we play quicker? But can we understand our roles a little bit,” said Johnson, whose team will host 5A Horizon on Thursday.
